The Indian Law Institute [ILI] is a well-known Autonomous Law institute based in New Delhi, which was inaugurated by the first president of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad on December 12, 1957. The Institute stands as the ‘Center for Excellence’ in the law discipline. ILI is conducting Common Admissions Test (CAT) annually in the month of April for the admissions to the Programmes such as- Ph. Eligibility Criteria For ILICAT 2017
For Ph.D. in Law
Candidates with LLM degree from a recognized institute with Minimum 55% marks is eligible to apply.
For LLM One year programme/ LLM Two year programme
Candidates holds LL.B. Degree with minimum 50% marks from any University/Institution recognized by Bar Council of India are eligible to apply.
Candidates with a law degree from a foreign country affiliated by an eminent university, with at least 50% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade are eligible to apply.
The candidates appearing in the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply, only if they obtain the requisite marks in the qualifying examination.
For P.G. Diploma Programmes
Candidate holds Graduate Degree from a recognized University are eligible to apply. Law Graduates will get 5% weightage for admission to all Post Graduate Diploma Courses.
The candidates who passed 5 year LL.B course from a reputed organization are eligible for taking admissions in any P.G. Diploma Programmes at ILI. Five seats of each programmes are reserved for these candidates.
Note: The list of PG Diploma courses offered by ILI are- Alternative Dispute Resolution, Corporate Laws and Management, Cyber Law, Human Rights Law, Intellectual Property Rights Laws and Labour Law.
For Online Certificate courses
Anyone who is studied/studying Diploma or degree after 10+2 and having knowledge about the Internet eligibility can apply for online Certificate Courses.
Ph.D. in Law- General Info
The candidates did UGC NET/ JRF, SLET, and M. Phil are exempted from writing ILI CAT 2017.
Written Examination: The total duration of written test will be of 3 hours. The short-listed candidates will invite for Presentation of their Research Proposal and Interview.
Master of Laws (LL.M.) – One Year Programme & LL.M. Two Year Programme- General Info
The candidates applying for LL.M. – One Year and LL.M. – Two Year Programme must fill separate application form. There should be an All India Common Admission Test (CAT) for both the programmes. The questions asking in the exam are for Testing Aptitude for Research, Legal Reasoning and Comprehensions and Basic Knowledge in different branches of Law. The institute will invite the selected candidates for participating viva-voice over conducting at the institute.
Exam pattern (Common For all tests)
The ILI CAT 2017 consists of three parts
Part 1: Will consists of 40 questions to check the Candidate’s English Language proficiency.
Part 2: This part will consists of 100 objective type questions from the subjects such as Law of Torts, Law of Limitation, Environmental Law, Commercial Law (Contract and Specific Relief Act, Partnership and Sale of Goods Act), Constitutional Law, I P C, Public International Law, and Jurisprudence.
Part 3: This part will consists of 4 subjective type questions to test the legal writing skills of the applicant.

Marking scheme for Part 1, 2 and 3 is mentioned below:
- For Part 1-> One mark will be given for every correct response. If you have marked any wrong answer then -1/4 marks gets deducted for each wrong attempt.
- For Part 2-> Marking scheme for Part 2 is as similar to Part 1.
- For Part 3-> 5 marks will be awarded to candidate for every correct answer. This part doesn’t include negative marking.
- Total marks of the question paper will be 160.

ILICAT application form 2017 will be made available by the Indian Law Institute in online as well offline mode for admission to Law programmes. Method of Obtaining ILICAT Application Form 2017
Candidates can obtain the application form of ILICAT 2017 in following ways:
- Online Mode: Candidates will get the application form link after completion of the registration procedure. Apart from this, the application form can be also downloaded along with the ILICAT prospectus.
- Offline Mode: In offline mode, candidates can obtain the application form by visiting the official address personally. While obtaining the application form in offline mode, you can pay the application fee in cash. Candidates can also request the prospectus via post. How to Apply in Online Mode?
- Go to the official web portal of Indian Law Institute.
- Now register yourself with providing few basic information including Email ID, Phone Number.
- Post completion of the registration session, candidates will get an application number and password.
- Now login with using the same application number and password and access the application form.
- Fill up your educational and qualification details and upload your signature, photograph, statement of purpose and fee payment details.
- Finally submit the form.

The amount can be paid either with using credit card/debit card/net banking in online mode or through demand draft in person.
The application form can collect from ILI at New Delhi. The completely filled application form should be submit in person or by Registered Post/ Speed Post/ Courier/ Messenger to the address ‘Registrar, Indian Law Institute, Bhagwan Das Road, New Delhi 110 001’ with perquisite demand draft fee.

Step 1: Apply for ILICAT 2017
I’d like to inform all aspirants that ILICAT application form 2017 will be available from the first week of May, 2017. Candidates need to apply with genuine information according to the deadline notified by the exam conducting authority.
Step 2: Obtain the Admit Card
Once your application will be accepted by the exam conducting authority then you can download your admit card from the official website. Candidates must obtain their admit card as without this they won’t be allowed to attend the exam.
Step 3: Appear in Entrance Test
ILICAT is going to be held at Delhi only. Candidates will get only multiple choice questions in the paper. The exam will be of 2 hours duration.
Step 4: Appear in a Legal Written Test
Along with appearing in the entrance test, candidates are also required to appear in a legal entrance test where legal writing skill of candidate will be verified.
Step 5: Next Step is appearing in Viva-Voce Conducted at Indian Law Institute
Candidates who are shortlisted after giving ILICAT they need to appear in Viva-voce which will be conducted at the Indian Law Institute only. Names of shortlisted candidates for viva-voce will be uploaded at the official website of the institute.
