CLAT 2017Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2017) is a national level entrance exam. It is commenced once in a year in the month of May. It is organized for granting admission in Integrated L.L.B and L.L.M courses offered by 18 National Law Universities of India. For the year 2017, examination is being organized by the Chankya National Law University, Patna. Last year (2016), it was managed by the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab.   • The upper age limit is 20 years (as on 1st July 2017) for general candidates and 22 years (as on 1st July 2017) for reserved categories to apply for CLAT examination.
  • Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Nagpur has been added in the list of 18 NLUs.
  • The admission/counselling process is being organized in only four rounds.

CLAT 2017 Registration/Application Form

  • CLAT 2017 registration are available via online process only.
  • The CLAT 2017 Application Form is available from the 1st January 2017.
  • Before filling the application form, candidates should be ready with the scanned documents of photograph, signature, SC/ST/SAP certificate (if applicable) and domicile certificate (if applicable).
  • The last date for submission of the filled application form is 31st March 2017.
  • There is no need to send the application form through offline process.

Application Fee

Candidates those belong to the UR/OBC/SAP (Specially Abled Persons) category, have to submit Rs. 4,000/- as an application fee. SC/ST candidates have to pay Rs. 3,500/- only. The application fee can be deposited either through Online or e-Challan. Additional bank charges may apply for the above transactions. The application fee is non-refundable in any circumstances.

Eligibility Criteria

To appear in CLAT 2017, candidates have to fulfill the following eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria for UG and PG courses are different as given below:

For UG Programmes:

  • Candidate has to qualify their 10+2 or equivalent examination with the minimum 45% marks (in case of Unreserved/OBC/SAP categories) and 40% marks (in case of SC/ST category).
  • Appearing candidates of Class 10+2 or equivalent examination in March/April 2017 are also eligible to appear in the entrance exam.
  • At the time of admission, the candidates would have to produce an evidence of their passing qualifying examination.
  • The upper age limit to appear in CLAT 2017 is 20 years as on 1st July 2017 (for Unreserved/NRIs/NRI Sponsored categories candidates) and 22 years (for reserved categories).

For PG Programmes:

  • Candidates must be passed the LL.B or equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks (Unreserved/OBC/SAP categories) and 50% marks (SC/ST category).
  • Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination are also eligible to appear CLAT.
  • Candidates would have to produce the evidence of their qualifying examination at the time of admission.
  • There is no upper age limit for PG courses.

Exam Pattern

The CLAT 2017 Exam Pattern is different for UG and PG programmes.

UG Programmes:

  • Mode of Exam: The entrance exam is being held through online process.
  • It will be a computer based test (CBT).
  • Medium: The medium of examination will be of English language.
  • Marks: The question paper will be of 200 marks.
  • Marking Scheme: For each correct response, 1 mark will be given to the candidate.
  • Negative Marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Duration: The time duration of this entrance exam will be two hours.

For PG Programmes:

  • Mode of Exam: The entrance exam will be held through online process.
  • It will be a computer based test (CBT).
  • Medium: The medium of examination will be of English language.
  • Duration: The paper will be of 2 Hours duration.
  • Marks: The paper will comprise of 150 MCQs.
  • Marking Scheme: The candidate will be awarded for 1 mark for each correct answer.
  • Negative Marking: There will be a provision for 0.25 negative marking for every incorrect response.

 

CLAT 2017 Syllabus

For the exam preparation, candidates have to know about the complete CLAT 2017 Syllabus. The syllabus of the entrance exam will be prepared by the conducting university. The syllabus includes the topic of General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Legal Aptitude, Elementary Mathematics and Constitutional Law, etc.

Question: What is the meaning of ‘merit-cum-preference’?

Answer: It means, allotment of seats will be done on the basis of score of CLAT and university preferences marked by candidates in application form.

Question: What is the upper age limit in CLAT 2017?

Answer: The upper age limit to appear in the CLAT 2017 exam is 20 years.

Question: Can any one get the admission in only LLB through NLUs after clearing the graduation?

Answer: No, NLUs offer only integrated Law in UG degree like BA LLB, BBA LLB or B.Com LLB.

Question: Will the correction facility be provided in CLAT 2017?

Answer: Perhaps this facility may be provided but not sure. So fill your application correctly.

Question: What do you mean by Participating Universities?

Answer: Participating Universities means the 17 National Law Universities which are part of CLAT 2017.

Question: Which documents can be uploaded as a proof for Date of Birth?

Answer: The following documents can be uploaded as a proof for Date of Birth
Birth Certificate
Matric Certificate (Tenth) having Date of Birth and issued by recognized board
Passport.

Question: Is there any requirement of computer skills?

Answer: The candidate need to only know how to operate computer mouse.

Question: Is there any special arrangement for Specially Abled Persons?

Answer: Yes. Need based assistance shall be provided to the Specially Abled Persons(SAP).

Question: What will be the medium of Online examination?

Answer: Medium of examination is English.

Question: What will happen in case there is some problem in computer during the examination?

Answer: There will be enough buffer systems available in the examination center to take care of such problems and time lost in change of system will be duly taken care of as each and every second will be recorded by the server.

Question: What is Online Examination?

Answer: It is a secured and un-interrupted Computer Based Test (CBT) using LAN. Online mode of examination is Examinee friendly also.

Question: What is the eligibility criteria for applying CLAT 2017 for UG & PG Courses?

Question: In case of problem in computer etc. will there be somebody to assist?

Answer: Yes, technically qualified people will be available at the Examination Centre.

Question: Which kind of disable persons can take admission through CLAT 2017?

Answer: A candidate will have to produce disability certificate from competent authority in accordance with the provisions of the Act. Definition of disability for the purpose of admission shall be in accordance with Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995. Disability in the act is defined to include: Blindness, low vision, leprosy cured, hearing impairment, loco-motor disability, mental retardation or illness.

Question: Will I get sheets/papers for rough work/calculations etc.?

Answer: Yes, Examination Centre will provide. But no electronic devices are allowed in Examination Hall/Room.

Question: How can I practice for Online Examination?

Answer: The Mock Test will be available on the website shortly. The candidate can use the same and practice as many times as he/she wants. This will give look and feel of the format of online examination (Computer Based Test) in simulation environment. It can also be downloaded and can be installed on stand-alone computer.

Question: I have filled-up the Application Form successfully but now, can I change or correct the details as entered in the Application form?

Answer: No change can be made after the Final Submission of the Application Form. However, if the time is still left for filling up the Online- Application Form, the applicant has to fill a Fresh/New Application Form along with the prescribed fee. In such case the new ID will be generated by the system and the fee paid for the previously filled Application form will not be refunded. Make Note that the last application form shall be treated as Final.

Question: If I received Blank/Zero Registration Number after submission of Application Form then what I should do?

Answer: It means that the Application Form has not been submitted successfully and you are required to apply a fresh.

Question: What details should I retain after completion of successful submission of my Application Form?

Answer: The candidate must retain the Hard copy of the Filled-in form, Fee receipt Detail and Auto-generated ID and Password.

Question: What will be my Login ID and i have forgot my password how to recover it?

Answer: Your e-mail ID is your login ID and you are required to click on the forgot password’ button and follow the directions to ‘recover/reset your password’.

Question: What is the procedure of allotment of Law Universities for admission and Can i change the preferences of National Law Universities subsequently?

Answer: During the online submission of application form, the candidates will be required to fill up all the 18 available choices of National Law Universities for the UG/PG course in order of their preferences. Seats shall be allotted on merit-cum-choice basis and candidates can not change their choices after submitting the application.

Question: Is there any seat available for NRI/NRI sponsored /Foreign National?

Answer: Yes. In some of the participating Law Universities seats are available for NRIs/NRI sponsored/Foreign National.

Question: Is there any reservation available on domicile basis in any of the Law Universities?

Answer: Yes. Some of the participating Law Universities have provision of domicile based reservations.

Question: Is there any reservation of seats in CLAT-2017for the women candidates?

Answer: Yes. Some of the participating universities provide horizontal reservation for the female candidates.

CLAT 2017 Admit Card

Aspirants will be able to download the admit card through online mode. CLAT 2017 Admit Card will be available from 20th April 2017. The conducting university will not send the admit card through e-mail or by post. On the day of examination, it is necessary for the candidates to bring the identity proof (Aadhar Card/Voter ID/ Passport/Driving license) along with the admit card.

Answer Key

On the day of examination we (Sarvgyan.com) will display the preliminary answer key to facilitate the aspirants to calculate their scores. After the result announcement, the official answer key will be released. The official answer key will be displayed on 16th May 2017. With the help of answer key, candidates will get a rough idea that how many marks they will score in the examination.

CLAT 2017 Result

The CLAT 2017 Result will be announced on 29th May 2017. The result will be declared by officials and displayed by us on the right time and date. The merit list will be released along with the result. On the basis of the merit list, candidates will be called for the admission procedure.

CLAT 2017 Counselling

The admission to UG and PG programmes in participating universities under CLAT 2017 will be done via centralized counselling. The seat will be allotted on the basis of the ‘merit-cum-preference’. That will be prepared by CLAT score and order of preference given by the candidate in the CLAT application form. After the result announcement, the CLAT 2017 Counselling process will be started from 6th June 2017. The counselling process will be organized in four rounds. Candidates would have to pay Rs. 50,000/- as counselling fee to show their commitment/seriousness in taking admission in any of the participating NLU(s).
